About the Foreign Remittance Service of Bangkok Bank, New York branch
If you have an account with a local bank in the United States you can transfer money in US dollar (USD) or Thai baht (THB) to a recipient who has an account with Bangkok Bank in Thailand. You will need to fill in the Application for Foreign Remittance of Bangkok Bank’s New York branch. Request your local bank in the United States to issue a Cashier’s check/Bank check stating Bangkok Bank, New York branch is the payee. The New York branch will process the money transfer to Bangkok Bank in Thailand, which will credit the funds to the recipient’s Bangkok Bank account in Thailand.

  1. What is “Foreign Remittance Service”?

    Foreign Remittance Service is a money transfer service of Bangkok Bank, New York branch. The sender will need to fill in the Application for Foreign Remittance of New York branch to make the transfer to the recipient’s Bangkok Bank account in Thailand. The sender can pay for the transfer by sending a Cashier’s check/Bank check to Bangkok Bank, New York branch.

  2. Who can use the service?

    Anyone with a US bank account can transfer money into a Bangkok Bank account in Thailand.

  3. After I transfer funds to Bangkok Bank, New York branch, when will the recipient’s account at Bangkok Bank in Thailand be credited?

    Once the Bangkok Bank, New York branch receives the Application for Foreign Remittance, a copy of the identity document from the sender, and a check covering the remittance payable to Bangkok Bank, New York branch from the sender’s local bank in the United States. Bangkok Bank, New York branch will make the funds transfer to Bangkok Bank, Thailand on the third business day upon collection of the check. Bangkok Bank, Thailand will then deposit the money into the recipient’s Bangkok Bank account in Thailand.

  4. Can I choose a conversion option?

    You can choose to exchange your funds for THB either at our New York branch or have the funds transferred to an account in Thailand in USD. You will be offered two choices in the Application for Foreign Remittance:

    • To transfer in Thai baht (THB)
      Bangkok Bank, New York branch will convert the currency from USD to THB using our New York branch’s exchange rate to transfer the money to Bangkok Bank, Thailand.

    • To transfer in US dollar (USD)
      Bangkok Bank, New York branch will transfer the funds in USD to Bangkok Bank, Thailand to proceed as per the following conditions:

      • Specify a recipient account as a Thai Baht Account
        Bangkok Bank will apply its T/T Buying Rate to convert foreign currency funds transfers into baht before crediting the funds.

      • Specify a recipient account as a Foreign Currency Deposit Account (FCD)
        Bangkok Bank, Thailand will be depositing the USD into the recipient’s FCD account. The recipient can then convert the USD into THB at a time you choose.
